Why did I sign up for this ride?

I looked with envy and absolute respect at the Ark Riders and the lengths they have gone to over the past few years to raise money for the Ark Cancer Centre Charity and thought, I would like to be a part of this and do my bit to help.

ryan houstonOn a personal level, like pretty much everyone else I know, I have seen the damage this disease can do to those affected by it, be it the victims themselves, or the families in support.  This can’t go on and a local centre is desperately needed to give the care and also support to the families of those having treatment.

When my nan was going through treatment I always remember the trips down to Southampton and the additional strain that had on my family.  I know when she died, the thought of a local centre helping people going through an all too similar experience would have made her happy.

This was my driving force to make me think “this is the event for me to do my bit”.

I’ve never been great at doing exercise on any sort of disciplined level so this will be the hardest thing I have ever done.  However, the chance to help the charity and the result in the end will make it all worthwhile!

Presently the training is going ok and I am trying to cycle twice a week and also have a weekly beasting at “Bootcamp” to get my sorry frame in shape!!

Please give generously – you can donate over here.
